Raw or dried bamboo tubes should be stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat or changes in moisture to prevent cracking or mildew growth.
Gojo is a great degreaser for any excess oils on the bamboo and the pumice acts as an gentle scrubber to help get rid off any excess grime on the bamboo. Grab yourself a green scrubber and some Gojo and give the bamboo tubes a good cleaning. Wipe off any residue from the cleaner with a damp cloth and allow the bamboo to air dry.
Sealing & Finishing
Start with 120grit sandpaper and sand the entire bike frame (minus the metals). Be sure to sand along the grain.
Once your finish, wipe down the entire frame with a degreaser. Do this a second time with a clean towel.
In my experience a quality shellac or polyurethane works great, I’d recommend 4-6 layers for a sturdy finish. Be sure to allow each coating to dry completely and prepare the surface as needed between each coating.
